DIRECTOR’S CORNER

Winter/Early Spring 2022-23

children leave cell phones and other communication devices at home; if you need to contact your child/children during camp hours, please call the camp office at 908-735-8336, and your request will be quickly honored.

Your cooperation by having a brief conversation with your child prior to camp regarding our cornerstones, C.A.M.P. (Consid- eration, Attitude, Manners), and respecting others to further foster the feeling of camaraderie and having good old-fashion fun will be greatly appreciated.

RED CROSS SWIMMING   PROGRAM

Campers swim twice daily with morning lessons and afternoon recreational swim. There are six levels in the Red Cross program. Campers attending four or more weeks have consis- tency and a higher rate of success.

We hope to be offering the LIFGUARD and WSI Programs in June; campers must reach the age of 15 by the end of the lifeguard course, and age 16 by the end of the WSI course. E- mail the camp if you are interested.

Week 1, Space is the Place. Week 2, American Heroes. Week 3, World Games (tie dye shirts). Week 4, Back in Time. Week 5, Shipwrecked. Week 6, Lights, Camera, Action. Week 7, Carnival, Game Show Mania.

CAMPER IN TRANSITION (CIT) 2023 LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

Our award winning CIT leadership program, under the direction of Hannah Perfetti, has 7 campers enrolled. Acceptanceis through anapplication process. All CITsare Winnewald veterans and will be entering 9th grade or above in September. CITs and their parents met in Februaryfororientationandwillattendapre-camp training sessions in Mayand June.

2023 CITs Wyatt Baumgarten, Evan Doty, Andersen Eide, Conor Goldman, Levi Hodkinson, Quinn Isherwood, Ada Jackson, and Kevin Kelly.

ELECTIVE PROGRAM

Campers in Grades 5-8 are welcome to suggest new elec- tives to be added to our program or comment on their favorite electives to be included this summer. Electives change weekly based upon the staffs’ interests.

WINNEWALD IS TECH FREE

Winnewald is tech free. Research indicates that without the pressure social media creates in their lives, campers are free to experience and benefit from the variety of organized activities and time for free play offered at camp. Your support is appreciated.

FROM THE WINNEWALD HEALTH DESK

Our health director, Stephani Stephens, RN, reviews all camper-related health forms and required documentation regarding IEPs, 504s, allergies, medical actionplans(allergy, asthmaanddiabetic, ifappropriate) andfamiliarizesherself with each camper’s special needs. In order to educate the staff and have the Health Office safely functioning by camp opening, parents must submit all thoroughly completed forms (AT LEAST 4 WEEKS PRIOR TO CAMPER’S FIRST DAY OF CAMP) and upload through Campium.

COPIES OF UP-TO-DATE IMMUNIZATION RECORDS ARE RE-

QUIRED BY THE STATE. Please upload your immuniztion records and other pertinent applicable forms accessed at http://winnewald.com/Forms/ Forms_template.htm The Health Form is posted on Campium. (RELIGIOUS EXEMPTIONS NEED A YEARLY REQUEST IN WRITING.)

In addition to the Health Form, submission of Winnewald forms found on our websitearerequiredforenrollmentacceptance. AllergyActionPlans, Designaion of Adminisationof Ephinephrine, and Medication Authorization Formsmustbe uploaded for campersrequiring completionof theseforms. Asthma Action and Diabetic plans from your camper’s Health Care Provider’s (HCP) are also accepted. HCP signature is not required on our health (OR MEDICA- TION AUTHORIZATION) forms, BUT is required, along with parent’s signature on the Allergy, Asthma or Diabetic Action plans. (ACTION PLAN DATES MUST NOT BE MORE THAN 365 DAYS FROM THE DATES CHILDREN ARE ATTENDING CAMP.)

PARENTS SHOULD ONLY COMPLETE THE NAME, DOSAGE

AND ROUTE OF MEDICATION (i.e. oral, chewable, liquid, IM, etc. PORTION OF THE MEDICATION ADM. FORM AND SIGNA- TURE. THE NURSE WILL COMPLETE THE DETAILED DIREC- TIONS. DO NOTFILL INACTION PLANMEDICATION INSTRUC- TIONS ON THESE FORMS.

All FULLY completed Winnewald health forms are a part of the registration process. If a child has an IEP, a 504 Accommodation Plan, or a Medical Management Plan, final camperacceptancewillbe made, pendingreviewofthe documents submitted four (4) weeks prior to thebeginningofcamp enrollment; apersonalinterview mayalso beconducted. Writtendocumentationisrequired from the family physician when a camper is returning to camp after A SUS- PECTED COMMUNICABLE ILLNESS OR an injurysustained at or out of camp.

WINNEWALD’S CORNERSTONES – C.A.M.P.

Emphasis at camp (through all activities) centers around our cornerstones, C.A.M.P., and is also the basis for selection of Camper of the Week (COW) for each group,: Consideration, Attitude, Manners, and Participation. Many of the campers’ group performances also include acting out examples of C.A.M.P.

Optional Activities Evening activi- ties, the Magic Tournament, and the Patriots Ballgame trip are posted on Campium.

Credit Cards/Payments: We do ac- cept credit cards; a 3 percent conve- nience fee will be added to transac- tions. Credit card payments may be made either on line through Campium or at the camp.

ACH payments are accepted online or paper checks may be sent to the camp. All cash payments must be made at the camp.

Seeking Qualified Staff Locating qualified staff continues to be a chal- lenge. Should you know of a dynamic, talented individual interestedin working withchildreninanoutdoorsetting, please referhim/her to Winnewald. Highschool seniors and college students preferred. Parents are also welcome to apply.
